As you might have noticed – not a lot has been going on here, apart from the continual chasing of WordPress upgrades and the upgrades to the various plugins.
Most of the integration with Canalplan is now complete and I’ve been working a lot on Wordbooker which is a WordPress plugin that connects WordPress blogs with Facebook.

As part of the streamlining of lots of stuff Canalplan Blogs has now moved to a new domain name.
From now on you can find us at http://blogs.canalplan.org.uk
Hopefully all your old links will still work but you should see the new URL in the navigation bar.
So can you please update your book marks.
If you find any problems please let me know.

It’s a never ending job!
The site has now been upgraded to WordPress MU 2.8.3 which fixes a few minor bugs.
I’ve also coded a sidebar widget for the WordBook plugin so if you link your blog to your Facebook account your current FB status is reported in the sidebar widget.

Lots of little bits of work to be honest. Nothing earth shaking but its all little bits of tweaking.
I’ve just added a plugin to allow intergration with Facebook, so when you post a blog entry on here its posted to your Facebook Page. I also extended the functionality of that plugin by adding a FB Status widget so that you can now display your FB profile picture and status on the side bar in your blog.
The Twitter plugin has also been upgraded which adds a lot of additional functionality, so if you Tweet its worth looking into.
I’m working on extending the Route importer to allow you to basically refresh the route with updated information from CanalPlan AC. As you’ll know the data in CanalPlan is continually being updated and enhanced. This means that the route you blogged about 4 months ago might now have much better mapping data (more intermediate places), or maybe you had to compromise on an overnight location and that place has now been added. Well the data refresh will allow you to refresh the route data, and then you’ll have to go in and reset the overnight locations.
Over on CanalPlan AC itself Nick’s added a “Vote for this mooring location” feature, so if you know a good mooring spot you can vote for it, of course doing that means that more people might moor there… At the moment the planner doesn’t use that information but the way we sort of see it working is that the planner might say “You can either stop slightly earlier, or push on a little more, to stop at X,Y or Z which are good mooring spots”

Nick has done the work inside Canalplan AC to support canals and places outside of the UK. At the moment there isn’t much data out there but because Canalplan Blogs and Canalplan AC share data it now means that you can write about places, such as AbbĂ©court which are on foreign canals. I think I’ve trapped all the places where accented characters can cause problems but I might have missed a few.
You can even refer to foreign canals and riverrs such as the lower River Seine
