About the Blogs
Nick and I had wanted to add more “user input” to CanalPlan AC for quite some time in an attempt to make it a much more dynamic site which, being a web based application, is an obvious enhancement., and his work on the new Gazetteer (which is in Beta at the moment) uses features that allow this user interaction to take place. What we wanted to be able to do was have links on the Gazetteer which linked out of Canalplan to sites that made reference to that place.
CanalPlan Blogs allows just that – and makes it easy for the user!
I’ve written some code which uses some of the AJAX code that Nick developed for V2 of the Gazetteer and developed a Plug-In for Wordpress1 that makes it easy to integrate CanalPlan gazetteer links into your posts.
So that makes linking out to CanalPlan easy – so what about the other way round. Well I’ve also written some code which delivers a set of Gazetteer codes, and blog permalinks to CanalPlan so it can integrate links into the Gazetteer.
Please check out the Current Features page for more information on what features are available, or check out the Support Forums
So if you have a canalboat, or access to one, or are just generally interested in the waterways, then sign up and get blogging.

- Well it WAS a plug-in but hideous problems with Javascript and Internet Explorer forced me to hard code the changes directly into a couple of pages ↩
